On August 16, 2016, Justin Sanders spoke to U.C.L.A. Law School’s First-Year Law Students on the topic of the “The Lawyer-Client Relationship.” Mr. Sanders shared his insights and experiences with business, criminal and political clients.
The lawyer-client relationship is unique because the lawyer is retained to act on behalf of, and for the benefit of, the client. It is the lawyer’s job, therefore, to give his very best efforts for the client. Mr. Sanders discussed the importance of loyalty to a client and the client’s interests, and how young lawyers should always put their client’s interests above their own. Mr. Sanders emphasized the importance of trust, and that lawyers should always been stewards of their clients’ trust funds. Mr. Sanders provided the students with real-world examples from some of his most challenging cases.
